Happy

In this project, I illustrated and animated a world where the Virtual Reality Technology took over everything, and where the only thing left for humans to do is to log-in into their own Virtual Worlds that they customized themselves and live the life they want.

I gave the illustrations a more traditional look by giving them texture and leaving brush strokes here and there. The VR world had to have warmer tones to symbolize the happiness and warmth of this world for the protagonist. In contrast, I colorized the real life in colder tones, since that is the reality the character is trying to escape from.

Additionally, since the identity of secondary characters is not really relevant to the plot, I didn't draw their details and only painted their figures. What was important, were the emotions that were being conveyed in each scene.

To be able to animate the scenes in a more efficient way, I seperated the elements of the paintings from the very beginning in different layers.

For the butterfly scene, I first painted the body of the butterfly and its two wings on seperate layers, and then I animated the flap in Aftereffects. Afterwards, I rotated it and animated its position. I duplicated the butterfly multiple times and scaled the new ones accordingly. I changed their speed and the movement path each time and also blurred them. Lastly, I added them to the scene.

To foreshadow that the world the viewer is seeing and where everything is "Perfect" is not really real, I used some Glitch effects along with the "Reconnecting" symbol on some few scenes.
